Kitchen Renovations: 2016 Trends

JD BLOG PHOTO TEMPLATE.001

If you’re thinking of updating your home, the kitchen is a great place to start – especially if you’re thinking of selling in the near future. The ROI on home improvements when selling is highest when you focus on common areas and functional rooms such as the kitchen or bathrooms. Here are the top trends for kitchens in 2016.

1. Neutral Kitchen Colours, Natural Materials and Bright Accents
Minimalism is in, which is great if you plan on selling in the future. Neutral kitchen colours like grey, whites and beige’s with a pop of colour are the current trend. According to Katie Carlson, “The hottest shades in the coming year will be soft whites (with white and black decorating schemes), light and dark brown colors of natural wood, light gray color tones of natural stone or concrete, all topped off with accent colors in rich hues.”

2. Thin Countertops
Although we still think they’re indulgent, your renovation budget will thank you, thick granite counter tops are out this year. Thin countertops are great, they’re sleek and elegant. Further more, “striking patterns and colours are a must in 2016. You may have already heard, but Quartz counter tops will continue to take the lead in kitchen countertop trends in the coming year” says Katie Carlson.

3. Contemporary Cabinet Designs
Kitchen cabinets often take the central focus of your kitchen so they’re not a place you want to cheap out. If you’re going to splurge on one area of your kitchen, this is it!

Don’t be afraid to use bright colours and glossy finishes. Bold cabinets are great when you are working with a neutral backdrop. The hardware on your cabinets is the perfect opportunity to show some style and make your cabinets really pop! There are so many different options out there these days that you shouldn’t have any trouble finding something that’s both trendy and appealing to you.

4. Hardwood Flooring & Grey Tones
Tiled floors in the kitchen are no longer a must have. With the popularity of hard wood, manufacturers have designed hard woods that can stand up to the traffic of the kitchen.  Dark wood is most popular but we are seeing grey tones, due to their ability to blend to the surrounding walls, a big up and coming trend.Kitchen Renovations | Grey Wood Flooring

5. Sleek Appliances, Furniture & Fixtures
Regardless of what you’ve heard, stainless steel is still going to be the number one choice for appliances in 2016 because of their wide appeal and classic style. Samsung recently introduced Black Stainless Steel appliances and they are gorgeous!
